This large colt, born May 2007, is going to be a magnificent horse! He is a palomino with a star, and UC Davis just confirmed that he genetically carries the silver dapple gene as well, which he inherited from his first prize, 14 hand sire, Pa fra Laugarvatni. Thus, as a stud, not only will be able to throw palomino, buckskin and smokey black offspring, but also silver dapple, silver bay, silver buckskin, etc...
Aside from his color, what makes this colt spectacular is his superb conformation. He is out of the large, stocky type. He will be big and strong like his sire, VERY capable of carrying any weight rider. He has big bones and a short, supple back. His neck is set on very well with a wonderful laid back shoulder. He is already tolting perfectly all over the pasture!

His temperament should be obedient and very responsive, like both of his parents. No stubbornness here. His sire and dam are shown below:

Dam: Svala

13.3 h, 4 gaited

+

Sire: Pa fra Laugarvatni

14 h, 5 gaited, 8.08

His sire is the legendary Pa fra Laugarvatni, the First Prize, 14 hand Silver Dapple Bay stallion who used to be owned by Dan Slott of Mill Farm. Click Here to see more info on Pa. He was featured in the film produced by Icelandic Sports, Inc, being ridden by Dan, himself. Dan mentioned that he became more invoved with importing stock, than with breeding. Therefore his stallions didn't produce very many offspring while in his care. Thus, Pa has produced very few foals here in the US and is just now getting back into the breeding scene at 23 years old. I'm very excited that Pa has produced such a nice colt who may be able to carry on his legacy for the next 30 years.

Strakur's Dam is Pia fra Odin, a large, stocky bucksin mare out of a 14 hand second prize sire. She has an exceptionally obeident and very loving temperament unique for this breed. She is forward going and a blast to ride.

Strįkur is, in my biased opinion, just about the best quality there is here in the US for a rock solid, tough, hardy, smooth and fast trail horse. He should also do well at Icelandic evaluations and competitions if you should so desire.

Thanks for looking at our new little darling!
